When you're fed up with Chicago, do the right thing . . . complain.

That's what Johnny Sampson did in May of 2011 when he was forced to buy a sweater due to an obnoxious streak of Chicago cold. "Fuckin' weather!" he thought to himself.

Pair that disgruntlement with the fact that Sampson was reading Ivan Brunetti's book Cartooning: Philosophy and Practice at the time, and the idea for the comic strip Chicago: A Love Story was hatched.

Initially regarded by Sampson as a "goof," the first small run of the four-color screen print took off right away, facilitated by a slew of posts to Facebooks, blogs, and Tumblrs, as well as a couple of Reddit appearances. Now in its second run, the print continues to sell because people continue to complain about the fuckin' Cubs. And the fuckin' rats. And the fuckin' crime.

After reading loads of comments about what he should've included in the comic, Sampson, who's a regular Reader contributor, hasn't ruled out another version.

"I can't believe I forgot the parking meters!!!" he tells me.

Copies of the print are for sale for 25 bucks on Sampson's Big Cartel page.
