Wayne Campbell Halloween costumes—primarily consisting of a black T-shirt, blue jeans, a black long-haired wig, and a Wayne's World hat—will and should never go out of style in Chicago, both because they're simple (and cheap) to piece together and because they're an indirect holler to our fair city (by way of Aurora, of course). I saw four Waynes on Friday and Saturday night combined, and I suspect I'll catch more in the next couple of days leading up to Halloween. Good with me.

Aside from inciting a furious rehashing of quotes from the movie, the multiple Wayne sightings this weekend also acted as inspiration for today's 12 O'Clock track. One of my favorite details about Wayne's World is that Tia Carrere's band, Crucial Taunt, inexplicably rides a cover of the Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz" to an unreal six-album deal in the movie's "mega-happy ending." I don't fault Mr. Big for the signing, I guess, because the leather-jumpsuit glam sound of the 70s British rock band is pretty undeniable, and the bridges to the chorus—which Crucial Taunt absolutely nail—include phenomenal theatrical vocal work (RIP Brian Connolly). And, you know, Carrere's character Cassandra is incredibly attractive.

Personally, though, if I had one long shot to impress an early-90s record mogul cruising in his limo, I would've gone with a rock ballad like "Why You Wanna Break My Heart." But that's probably why they don't pay me the big bucks.

(Special thanks to the band Tia Carrera, who provided additional inspiration.)
