The Renaissance Society, the venerable avant-garde art museum in residence at the University of Chicago, has appointed its first new executive director and chief curator in 39 years.
Solveig Øvstebø (‘Săl-vēg ōvst-‘ē-bō), now director of the Bergen Kunsthall, a contemporary art space in Norway, will take over at the Ren in June. Longtime director Susanne Ghez, who's been the sustaining force and face of the museum since 1974, will retire at that time.
The museum will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2015.
