So we had our first snow. We can't ignore it any longer: winter is coming. Bummer, right? Whenever the season hits, I think of the time I saw Johnny Ill Band in a tiny basement in Logan Square. It was right about this time of year, in either 2008 or 2009. The Detroit-based jangly garage band played today's 12 O'Clock Track
, "In the Wintertime," a catchy pop number whose lyrics come into my mind when I think of how much winter sucks, which is something that I think most midwesterners can relate to. Except the line about wishing you lived in Arizona. Really, guys? Ew.
The song came out on vinyl one year ago, courtesy of X! Records, who have released records for a bunch of other Detroit-based garage acts, such as Tyvek and Terrible Twos. Sure, winter isn't very cool, but it's hard to get too down about it when a song this fun is your "winter sucks" anthem.
