Heavy on lead guitarist Eddie Hazel, Funkadelic's '74 album, Standing on the Verge of Getting It On, is more about the instrumental rock grooves than George Clinton's vocals. In fact, on today's 12 O'Clock Track, "Alice in My Fantasies," Clinton's mostly unintelligible vocals—reverberating under the jam's surface—act as an accent to the vintage hammering guitar lines that sometimes border on psych, sometimes on driving, tough rock 'n' roll. Clocking in just shy of two and a half minutes, the track is one of the album's shortest, but it sizzles the whole damn time due to Hazel's prowess at laying down one hypnotic, thick lick after another, after another (after another).
