12 O'Clock Track: "Wires" is summery, 90s-flavored pop-rock

  • Lurve
I'm not exactly sure how little-known (only 140 Facebook fans) New York-based four piece Lurve wound up on my radar, but I've been jamming the three songs they have up on their Bandcamp page nonstop since the beginning of the year. Sure, these were great tracks to power you through a dreary winter slump, but what they're tailor-made for is summer sunshine and cool breeze, so now's the time to really turn them on and up. Today's 12 O'Clock Track is "Wires," which showcases the band's brilliant take on 90s-influenced power-pop. Lurve draws equally from Dinosaur Jr.'s heavy guitar textures, early Weezer's slacker vibe, and Guided by Voices' melodic overload. What you wind up with is perfectly warm and summery alternative pop-rock. You can hear "Wires" after the jump.

The other two songs available are equally excellent. A note says that an album is on its way, but no word on when. I'm anxiously awaiting that day, though, because I can't get enough of these guys.
