The 31st annual Fiestas Puertorriquenas kicks off today in Humboldt Park at Division and California and continues through Sunday. Festivities include food, music, crafts, carnival rides, a Miss Puerto Rico pageant, and, of course, the Puerto Rican People's Parade, which takes off from Division and Western on Saturday at noon.
Last year's inaugural Spring Awakening at Soldier Field found Reader staff writer Miles Raymer "legitimately having a blast dancing on a football field surrounded by thousands of jocks wearing 'Sex & Drugs & Dubstep' T-shirts." Round two starts today and goes through Sunday, with a lineup featuring Chicago mainstays Flosstradamus and DJ Trentino alongside EDM legends Moby and Paul Okenfold.
Shame That Tune is a monthly musical-comedy game show at Hideout in which Reader contributor and Outer Minds drummer Brian Costello awkwardly interviews three local contestants (in this edition, Reader associate editor Kevin Warwick is one) about their most embarrassing stories while former Baby Teeth front man Abraham Levitan writes those stories into a familiar pop song.
