Kings Destroy are from Brooklyn, and their lineup includes members of influential New York hardcore band Killing Time, somewhat less influential New York hardcore band Uppercut, and garage punks Electric Frankenstein. Their new album came out in May, and unsurprisingly Parker produced it. (He also worked on their previous full-length, 2010's And the Rest Will Surely Perish.) Kings Destroy doesn't sound much like hardcore or garage punk, though—"Casse Tete," streaming below, is languid and heavy, and its doomy sludge and clean vocals give me flashbacks to Pentagram and Alice in Chains (don't hate).
Tonight in Bottom Lounge's upstairs Volcano Room, Kings Destroy will play a free War Crime showcase, sandwiched between headliners Bloodiest and fellow Chicagoans the Swan King, whose next album the label will release in late 2013 or early 2014.
Doors are at 7 PM, and music starts at 9 PM. You might want to get there early to enjoy some free pinball and some of the undoubtedly special but unfortunately not free beers that Three Floyds is tapping for the occasion—brewery vice president Barnaby Struve wasn't able to tell me what they'd be, saying only "a shining ray of liquid light from heaven compliments of FFF." Well, I'm sold.
For those of you who want to hear more Kings Destroy, Revolver is streaming A Time of Hunting in its entirety.
One last thing: Parker just told me that this gig poster by Bay Area tattoo artist Tim Lehi will be for sale at the show.
