Bric-a-Brac, the brand-new Avondale record and collectibles shop mentioned in last week's Gossip Wolf and this week's Best of Chicago issue, is celebrating its first week of business this weekend with a grand opening party and has just announced the lineup for the event. It starts at noon and features performances from two duos: Madison-based garage darlings the Hussy and local pop two-piece Slushy. A handful of local DJs will be in and out of the shop throughout the day, including sets from HoZac honcho Todd Novak, dance producer Kid Color, and local booker (and Slushy member) Brent Zmrhal. The highlight of the day, however, will be an appearance from Justin Howard, better known as Nordic Thunder, 2012's Air Guitar World Champion. I'm really excited to see Thunder deliver an athletic, hair-whipping shredding in the shop's cozy confines. Check him out after the jump, making himself bleed to some classic Metallica.
Bric-a-Brac will also be offering prizes and raffles throughout the day, including Nobunny's Love Visions seven-inch box set. This party will be the first of many: co-owner Nick Mayor says he plans on applying his booking experience from his old gig at Schubas and Lincoln Hall to start setting up regular shows in the shop.
