You hear a lot about single mothers, but what about single fathers, huh? Hip-hop poet Marc Bamuthi Joseph's Word Becomes Flesh, which takes place at the University of Chicago Logan Center for the Arts, uses spoken word, dance, and music to describe the experience of a young father during the nine months of pregnancy.
"The players are fluent in the vocabulary of postbop, and unlike many free-jazz musicians they're not afraid to sound aware of current trends in pop," writes Peter Margasak in Soundboard of the jazz band Rooms Trio. They perform tonight at Constellation.
"Chicago's Bauhaus History," an exhibition that collects student and faculty work from Chicago's New Bauhaus school, is on currently on display at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art. Aimee Levitt's review is here.
