Stanley Tigerman—architect, author, teacher, mentor, iconoclast, innovator, philosopher, and master of whimsy—will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chicago branch of the American Institute of Architects at its 58th annual awards program Friday in the Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier.

AIA Chicago says it's honoring Tigerman for the "indelible mark" he's left on Chicago architecture and the profession, through his "legacy of built projects" and his "lasting academic and advocacy influence." Among his many achievements: more than 175 projects built (including the Illinois Holocaust Museum) and the cofounding of Chicago's design school with a social conscience, ARCHEWORKS.

If you want to know more about all that, my 2011 profile of him isn't a bad place to start. An excerpt made its way into a mural, "Stanley Tigerman and the Boardwalk Apartments," by Elise Glickman, installed earlier this year in Tigerman's honor at 4343 Clarendon, his first high-rise.
