Peter Margasak pointed out that there's some great Christmas music when he wrote about Marvin Gaye's "Purple Snowflakes"
for yesterday's 12 O'Clock Track, and I for one wish I could've heard that tune years ago. Christmas music is so tied to a religious holiday I have no emotional attachment to that I've never been able to get hooked on most of it; instead, I've taken to holiday tunes that barely resemble the kind of seasonal classics that fill the air this time of year. For example, grindcore outfit Agoraphobic Nosebleed rage against the yuletide spirit with the 11 short, combative, and combustive tracks on 2011's A Joyful Noise
. Today's 12 O'Clock Track
is a seven-second burner called "No Presents This Year," and it's got lyrics that are unseasonally mean—the band takes jabs at Scion for its involvement in the metal scene, for one ("No presents from Scion this year, just regrets"). Metal magazine Decibel released A Joyful Noise as a flexi disc
a couple years ago, which Agoraphobic Nosebleed mentions in the second half of the song's lyrics. I won't give away everything, so listen to the track below.
