Nothing like buildings exploding and a sexually deviant Saint Nick to get in the Christmas spirit. Tonight Double Door is hosting a holiday double feature of Die Hard and Bad Santa.
Since 1990 Hamid Drake and Michael Zerang have celebrated the winter solstice with improvised performances greeting the dawn at 6 AM. Join them at Links Hall today when, as Bill Meyer writes in Soundboard, "two drum masters will use their instruments (and sometimes their voices) to invite a crowd of predawn congregants to commune with the seasons, with the divine, and with one another until daylight streams into the room."
The mostly local band Wigshift bring their free-form rock to the Empty Bottle tonight. As Kevin Warwick writes in Soundboard, their "deconstructive riffing—perhaps augmented by, say, saxophonist Mars Williams, blowing switchblades out of his bell—achieves a kind of deranged circus-punk aesthetic, all flourishing capes and gritted teeth."
