If one of your resolutions is to take in more of the city’s live-lit scene, Lifeline Theatre is about to make things really easy for you: the Fillet of Solo Festival will be running for the next three weekends. Tonight’s options include Julie Ganey at Lifeline Theatre and "Five From Rogers Park" at Heartland Studio Theatre.
Ian’s Party has long been bigger than the man. Entering its umpteenth incarnation, the once-suburban punk festival highlights the city’s spoils, from pop-punk to hardcore to postpunk to metal, spread over a pair of venues: Township and Quenchers. Tonight at Township check out Vacation, whose album, as Leor Galil writes in Soundboard, "sounds like jangly bubblegum garage that’s been splashed with battery acid."
Opening this weekend (and continuing for three weeks), Extinct Entities features lectures, screenings, and performances about bygone Chicago art venues, curated by Links Hall artistic associates Erin Nixon, Anthony Romero, and Anthony Stepter. The opening reception and book launch is at Links Hall tonight with readings from Josh Rios, Brandon Alvendia, and Romero.
