Looking for something to do today? Agenda's got you covered.

The conservation team tasked with maintaining Renoir's Madame Léon Clapisson in all its glory discovered there's more to the impressionist painting than meets the eye. "Renoir's True Colors: Science Solves a Mystery" shows the scientific and technological processes used to uncover the painting's secrets and restore its original bright hues. On display at the Art Institute of Chicago through 4/27.

After more than four decades of music from garage band the Sonics, the Reader's Leor Galil still can't quite get over how crazy they sound: "With their unhinged howling, cannonlike drumming, ragged sax blasts, spooky keyboards, and demented guitar riffs, the Sonics sound nuts even today—when one of their tunes is bearing down on me, I still sometimes freeze like a deer in headlights." See the veteran band at Double Door tonight. The Cynics open; Todd Novak of HoZac Records spins.

Enjoy an evening of heroic-themed music and film topped off with loads of beer at Oak & Iron III: A Bounty of Barrel-Aged Beer. Performers DJ Grimsbørg, ZUUL, and Bible of the Devil will be on hand for the event at Jerry's in Wicker Park.
