Our inaugural Cocktail Challenge last fall was so much fun that we're back at it with the Spring Cocktail Challenge (it's spring, right?). Inspired by our biweekly feature that tasks local bartenders with creating a drink using unconventional ingredients, tonight's event features unique libations created by the likes of Paul McGee (Three Dots and a Dash), Mark Brinker (Barrelhouse Flat), and 18 other mixologists from some of Chicago's best bars. You get to choose the winning cocktail.
Canadian DJ-producer Lunice performs tonight at the Mid. According to Reader contributor Miles Raymer, Lunice "pounds on a sampler with such frenetic energy he'd blend right in with a hardcore punk band, weaving seamless, room-shaking tracks out of dance music, hip-hop, and stuff that falls in the increasingly blurry space between the two." Cashmere Cat, Wave Racer, Obey City, and Zebo open.
Fringe theater mainstay Beau O'Reilly turns 60 this year, and he is commemorating the event with a tribute to Samuel Beckett called Sixty Story Animal. O'Reilly told the Reader's Tony Adler that Beckett has been a frequent inspiration: "In recent years I have come to realize how Beckett's marriage of intuition and rigor has underlined so much of what I myself have made. The stories we tell are different, the language we use to tell them, but the starting places are very similar."
