It's Nelson Algren's birthday (105th to be precise), so the Nelson Algren Committee is celebrating at the Bloomingdale Arts Building with readings, poetry, music, and video. Comic Nate Herman reads from Algren's work. Writer Mary Wisniewski and filmmakers Dennis Mueller and Mark Blottner pay their respects. And filmmaker Tom Palazzolo receives this year's Algren Award.

In Archiving & Amplifying Chicago's Experimental Creativity, panelists discuss the late Chicago-based activist and experimental music enthusiast Malachi Ritscher, whose thousands of audio recordings are housed at the Creative Audio Archive at Experimental Sound Studio. The Reader's own Peter Margasak is among the panelists, and the event takes place at Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art.
