- Can you tell who is in Black Flag?
Yesterday evening the latest incarnation of iconic hardcore outfit Black Flag performed "stripped down" versions of its tunes for children at Reggie's Rock Club. The idea of seeing a band that once excelled at making vitriolic, unfriendly punk transform those songs into something "kid friendly" was absurd and interesting enough to convince me to head to Reggie's more than an hour before doors opened for the show. Unfortunately I couldn't get into Reggie's to witness this momentous event. Although it was billed as an all-ages concert any adult who showed up without a tike (or any teenager who didn't come with an adult) got turned away at the door.
I quickly found myself stuck outside of Reggie's with a handful of perplexed teenagers and one very disgruntled gentleman—he had a ticket to the "regular" Black Flag show later that evening but was so angry about being turned away he told me he wasn't sure he wanted to stick around (he added he wasn't too pleased with Black Flag's 2013 album, What The . . . ). I didn't stick around long either, but a friend of the Reader who helms GlitterGuts was on hand to take photos of this unusual concert. Take a look at the pictures of the scene below.
