Looking for something to do today? Agenda's got you covered.

Alien sci-fi comedy The History of Future Folk comes to Wicker Park's Double Door. Released in 2012, the film traces the origins of bluegrass band Future Folk with whimsy, apocalyptic charm, and an upbeat, soulful soundtrack.

In other bluegrass-y news, Finnish black-metal band Sargeist performs at Beat Kitchen tonight. While its old-school sound has little to do with the lulling melodies of folk music, Reader contributor Noah Berlatsky writes of its "fervor and fealty that should be familiar to anyone who's ever been to a blues or bluegrass festival." The set spans decades of the band's career, from 90s favorites to songs from its latest album, Feeding the Crawling Shadows, released earlier this year.

Hark ye, lords and ladies! The Bristol Renaissance Faire returns to Kenosha this weekend, filling 30 acres of space with aerial dancers, sword play, and draft beers. The venue features performances by New Minstrel Revue and 2 Merry Men in its opening weekend, not to mention basket-weaving and needle-work lessons.
