Nothing brings everyone in the greater Chicago area together like a high concentration of expensive food. The Taste of Chicago starts its five-day run today in Grant Park. As always, Chicago's best and most famous restaurants will have stands. Notable vendors include Connie's Pizza, M Burger, Smoke Daddy, and Harold's Chicken. Musical performances come from Janelle Monae, Jeff Tweedy, Emmylou Harris, and others.
For those searching for a unique musical sound, Weedeater and company are ready to provide. The group performs alongside Vukari, Marmora, and Dirt Church tonight at Reggie's Rock Club. The Reader's Monica Kendrick writes of Weedeater's lead "Dixie" Dave Collins: "Collins's raspy vocals, meanwhile, make him sound like the kind of guy who loses appendages all the time."
The Gene Siskel Film Center screens a true gem tonight: Gore Vidal: The United States of Amnesia. Directed by Nicholas Wrathall, the movie explores the life of one of America's famous writers.
