The city presented us today with its list of the five honorees for the first annual Fifth Star arts awards, which recognize "exemplary" Chicago artists and arts institutions working in art, architecture, dance, music, and theater.

We don't know exactly who did the picking—winners were reportedly being selected by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, as well as "select members" of the Cultural Advisory Council, a board made up of mayoral appointees—or exactly what the process was, but it's been done.

The winners are . . .

• Hubbard Street Dance Chicago founder Lou Conte
• Sculptor Richard Hunt
• Composer and pianist Ramsey Lewis
• Former Cultural Affairs commissioner Lois Weisberg
• The 125-year-old Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University

The awards will be given out during a free live tribute show at 7 PM on September 17 in Millennium Park's Pritzker Pavilion.
