Head over to North Avenue Beach and look up. Today's the second day of the 55th Annual Chicago Air & Water Show, the largest free show of its kind in the United States. Military and civilian teams are both on display, with performances ranging from leap-frogging parachutists to Marine MV-22 Ospreys to P-51 Mustang aerobatics.
How much is too much? At the Great American Lobster Fest, the lobster limit might not exist. On the menu are lobster rolls, lobster tacos, lobsters on a stick, lobster bisque, and even lobster mac 'n' cheese. Nonseafood options round out the menu, with offerings such as corn on the cob, BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, funnel cakes, and churros. Seafood and music—both live—are both in abundance at Navy Pier from 10 AM to 10 PM.
Bluesy gospel guys Holmes Brothers perform at Evanston S.P.A.C.E. tonight. With a discography spanning two decades, they promise a set of oldies, new tunes, and their signature churchy harmonies. "The most memorable moments come when all three members sing together—whether they're telling stories of temptation and dissolution or delivering inspirational testimonials, their eloquent blended voices invoke praise, uplift, and redemption by virtue of their beauty alone," says Reader contributor David Whiteis of their 2014 album Brotherhood.
