Spotted in Wicker Park: A couple who've dressed alike for 20 years

Street View is a fashion series in which Isa Giallorenzo spotlights some of the coolest styles seen in Chicago.

Ricardo and Jesse have dressed alike, down to every imaginable detail, for two decades. Spotted in Wicker Park on a visit to Chicago, the Erie, Pennsylvania, couple were even eating similar cookies—with the same bites taken out of them. The couple travels the world as part of a personal performance piece called Art in Tandem.

"It started out as a concept that everyone is the same," Ricardo said. "But a little bit different," Jesse added. For the matched pair, picking the day's outfit is a collaborative process that can take from 20 minutes to two hours. Many of their garments are "recycled, repurposed, refurbished," or designed by the dynamic duo, such as the hat in the photo. Back in Erie, Ricardo and Jesse are minor celebrities; they're frequently spotted tooling around town on a tandem recumbent bike, their duds coordinated as always. The only inconsistency: they both wear the same earring, but each wears his in a different ear—a calculated move, as Jesse explained: "We can't all be the same, but we're more alike than different."
