In 2009, shortly after the release of their second LP, Things Are Not All Right, Fitzpatrick left and was replaced by Tyler Brock of Half Rats on bass and Anthony Cozzi of Radar Eyes on guitar and organ, and the band transformed into a massive unit, louder and more powerful than ever. At the end of 2010, with the Roes becoming parents and their other joint creative venture, Trouble in Mind Records, picking up steam, CoCoComa sort of got pushed to the side and ended up fizzling out. "We just decided to call it a day, not break up necessarily, just walk away," says Bill, "We had just played the best set of our career, opening for the Gories, and thought that's a good way to end it."
That is until last weekend, when, as Gossip Wolf reported, CoCoComa's four-piece lineup reunited to play good friend J.J. Wright's wedding. If you weren't fortunate enough to catch that show, you still have another chance to see this excellent band, and it's this Sunday, 3/1, for a free in-store appearance at Bric-a-Brac records.
I saw the band's wedding performance, and there was magic in the air when they played those songs again. Everyone in the room had huge smiles on their faces over the course of the entire set. I asked Bill the really important question: would there be any chance for more CoCoComa shows in the future. "Who knows? We're only in it for the money from here on out," he joked. "We do weddings and bar mitzvahs."
So someone should get married ASAP and hire CoCoComa as the entertainment. Because they're still just the best.
