Time to plan the holiday weekend. Here's some of what we recommend:
The people of Bump and Grindcore host Ludacrismas
, the annual holiday party dedicated to all things Luda at Beauty Bar (1444 W. Chicago) featuring music from DJ Trew and All the Way Kay, Ernest Wilkins, a GlitterGuts photobooth, and drag superstar Lucy Stoole. 9 PM
The North Pole Soul Brothaz Christmas Bash
at North Bar (1637 W. North) is a dance party with tunes by DJ Alo, DJ Kwest On, and Dirt Diggler spin funk, soul, R&B, and classic house music. 10 PM-2 AM
Reformation Church-Chicago hosts Black Nativity Meets Kwanzaa
at Lutheran School of Theology (1100 E. 55th), a performance of the works of Langston Hughes set to jazz music. The celebration also includes a performance by Imani Sacred Jazz Ensemble and an authentic Kwanzaa candlelight ceremony. 5 PM
In its 60th season, the Joffrey Ballet performs its late founder's beloved adaptation of the holiday classic The Nutcracker
one last time. The show's run at the Auditorium Theatre (50 E. Congress) ends Sunday with special appearances from Joffrey Ballet alum. Sat 2 and 7 PM, Sun 2 PM
Sun 12/27: Holly Days
at the Art Institute of Chicago (111 S. Michigan) is a family festival featuring a special look at the museum’s Neapolitan creche and holiday-decorated Thorne Rooms, plus a craft station to create a diorama featuring holiday traditions. 10:30 AM-3 PM
