This week marks the start of the Year of the Monkey! Here's some of what we recommend to celebrate the Chinese New Year:

Through 5/1: Strandbeests ("beach animals") are the invention of 67-year-old Dutch artist and engineer Theo Jansen. Eight of these specimens will be on display at "Strandbeest: The Dream Machines of Theo Jansen" the exhibition at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 W. Washington) that also features sketches, "fossils," video, and photography, as well as daily demonstrations of Strandbeest movement.

Mon 2/8: Devised Ensemble presents This . . ., a multimedia dance performance exploring living in the moment. It closes tonight at Links Hall (3111 N. Western). 7 PM

Tue 2/9: Jackie Chan's Long Yun Kung Fu dance troupe presents 11 Warriors, a performance combining ballet, martial arts, and modern dance to celebrate the Chinese New Year at the Logan Center for the Arts (915 E. 60th). 7:30 PM

Tue 2/9: Women in Comedy presents Love Letter to Myself at the Laugh Factory (3175 N. Broadway), a night of stand-up from female comedians along with readings of self-addressed love letters written by other women in the city such as a homicide detective, a Cook County judge, and more. 8:30 PM

Through 2/21: The season's winter performance at the Auditorium Theatre (50 E. Congress), Bold Moves, includes the return of two pieces from Joffrey's recent repertoire: Yuri Possokhov's Raku and Jiří Kylián's Forgotten Land. Wed-Fri 7:30 PM, Sat 2 and 7:30 PM, Sun 2 PM

Wed 2/10: The storytelling discussion series the Tequila Tales celebrates its three-year anniversary at the Promontory (5311 S. Lake Park Ave. West) with host Isaac Paul. 8 PM

Wed 2/10:
The Smear Campaign presents Sluttalk at the East Room (2828 W. Medill), a night of females sharing their jokes and stories about being called a slut. Alicia Swiz hosts and a Q&A with the performers follows. 8-10 PM

Thu 2/11: Prove you know everything about the show about nothing at Seinfeld Trivia at Reed's Local (3017 W. Belmont). Winners will be bought a cheap round of drinks, and they'll also be awarded a round of non-fat strawberry yogurt and an Oro-Dent electric toothbrush. 7 PM
