Smart Bar launched its Northside '82 label last July, and this weekend it releases its third record: Chrissy & Hawley's The Photobooth. Chrissy is Christopher Shively, the producer and DJ formerly known as Chrissy Murderbot, and Hawley is singer-songwriter Hawley Shoffner, who recently dropped a pop-rock seven-inch called Tiger. The title track of Chrissy & Hawley's EP combines untroubled disco strings, bubbling synth-pop percussion, and gurgling, cartoony keyboard stabs. Shoffner's sauntering, assured, and slightly intimidating vocals help give its gleefully punchy funk a touch of darkness.

Online magazine the 405 premiered "The Photobooth" yesterday, and mentioned that this three-song EP is a sort of teaser for the duo's forthcoming self-titled debut, which Chrissy will release on his Nite Owl Diner label in July. You can listen to "The Photobooth" now—it's today's 12 O'Clock Track—and buy it on wax in just a few days. Northside '82 will have copies of the 12-inch at Saturday's record-release party at Gramaphone Records, where Chrissy, Ike Release, and Eris Drew will spin beginning at 2 PM.
