Superstitious? There's plenty to do this Friday the 13th weekend that doesn't involve black cats or walking under ladders (hopefully). Here's some of what we recommend:

Fri 5/13:
Naked Girls Reading presents this special Friday-the-13th installment of the salacious reading series at Studio L'Amour (4001 N. Ravenswood) focusing on the theme "superstition." 8 PM

5/13-5/14: The Chicago Science Fest at 1871 (222 W. Merchandise Mart, Plaza #1212) features lectures, workshops, and demonstrations on topics like deep ocean research, neuroscience of hallucinogenic drugs, urban wildlife, climate change, black holes, and the physics of Game of Thrones. Fri 3-6 PM, Sat 10 AM-5 PM

5/13-5/15: Sartorial work by SAIC fashion students is on display at the Garfield Park Conservatory (300 N. Central Park) during Fashion 16.

Martin (The Babysitter's Club), Lucy Knisley (Something New), Ransom Riggs (Tales of the Peculiar), and Veronica Roth (the Divergent series). 10 AM-6 PM

Sat 5/14: McGee's Tavern (950 W. Webster) hosts the Headsucker's Ball, an all-you-can-eat celebration of crawfish served alongside gumbo, red rice, and jambalaya with drink specials and zydeco music from Hurricane Gumbo. 11 AM-8 PM
