From comedy shows to festivals to literary readings, there's tons to do in Chicago this week. Here are just a few recommendations:


5/30-6/4: Seasoned comedian Emily Galati begins a six-day stint at Zanies (1548 N. Wells) as a part of their Welcome Home series. Previously, Galati has been featured on Conan and Last Comic Standing. Tue-Thu and Sun 8:30 PM, Fri 8:30 and 10:30 PM, Sat 7, 9, and 11:15 PM

Tue 5/30: The Chicago Reporter, Young Chicago Authors, and Public Narrative come together at Kennedy-King College Theatre (740 West 63rd) for Voices Against Violence, a storytelling event regarding the effects of violence in Chicago. 7 PM

Wed 5/31:
 The breakout RuPaul’s Drag Race star presents her one-woman show Trixie Mattel: Ages 3 and up. Located at the Laugh Factory (3175 N. Broadway), Mattel's show is full of humor, heart, and plenty of drag.

Wed 5/31: The monthly activism series hosted by Women and Children First (5233 N. Clark) continues by highlighting the Courage Campaign, which works to combat sexual assault on public transit. Following the session, there will be a Q&A with Annie Clark and Andrea Pino, authors of We Believe You: Survivors of Campus Sexual Assault Speak Out. 7 PM

5/31-6/4:
The A.V. Club welcomes headliners Patton Oswalt, Christopher Guest, and Mike Judge to town for the Fourth Annual 26th Annual Comedy Festival taking place at venues all across the city. Other performers include Aparna Nancherla, Jena Friedman, and Bobcat Goldthwait & Caitlin Gill.

Thu 6/1: Ada Cheng tells the story of her multiple identities with Not Quite: Asian American by Law, Asian Woman by Desire at the Public House Theatre (3914 N. Clark). A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Healing Corner. 8 PM

Thu 6/1: American black-metal master Xasthur plays neofolk at the Beat Kitchen (2100 W. Belmont). Luca Cimarusti writes, "It's an unexpected turn, and kind of a weird one to grasp, but the new songs still capture the same twisted, unsettling bleakness of Xasthur's best metal tracks." 8:30 PM

6/1-6/4: Celebrating the German heritage prevalent in Chicago, the 18th annual Maifest takes place at Lincoln Square (4700 N. Lincoln) and includes traditional German food, music, and the maypole dance.Thu 5-9:30 PM, Fri 5-11 PM, Sat noon-11 PM, Sun noon-10 PM
