The dog days of summer have come early. This weekend features multiple dog-related events, as well as a comedic roasting of Wonder Woman. Here are a few other suggestions:


6/2-6/4: Enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine at Taste of Little Village: Flavors of Mexico (26th and California). In addition to delicious food, there will be live music, carnival rides, and crafts. Noon-10 PM


Fri 6/2: Kevin Coval discusses his book A People's History of Chicago, a collection of poems celebrating the marginalized, often overlooked individuals who have shaped this city's history. Coval will be joined by retired University of Illinois at Chicago professor Bill Ayers at the Seminary Co-op Bookstore (5751 S. Woodlawn). 6 PM


Fri 6/2: Legendary jazz trumpeter Hugh Ragin makes a rare Chicago appearance at Constellation (3111 N. Western). Ernest Dawkins, Junius Paul, and Vincent Davis will also perform. 8:30 PM


6/3-6/4: Red Clay Dance's The Art of Resilience at the Logan Center for the Arts (915 E. 60th) explores the complexity of identity with five new works. Following the performance will be the annual Paint the Town Red afterparty. Sat 7:30 PM, Sun 3 PM

Sat 6/3: Pop-Up Magazine: A Night of Live Stories comes to the Harris Theater (205 E. Randolph). Witness the creation of a live magazine with riveting stories, visuals, and live music. Guests include author Jon Ronson, This American Life producer Karen Duffin, and Reader editor Robin Amer. 7:30 PM

Sat 6/3: A dog lover's dream. Hang with hundreds of small pooches at the Pug Party at Park Tavern (1645 W. Jackson). All pug fanatics are welcome. If you're looking to take home a new friend, the Milwaukee Pug Rescue will be in attendance with adoption information. Noon-5 PM


Sun 6/4: The Dog Film Festival explores the unique relationship between humans and their canine companions. A variety of inspiring, sweet, and adorable short films from around the world will be screened at the Music Box Theatre (3733 N Southport). A portion of proceeds will benefit a local shelter. .Noon and 2 PM

Sun 6/4: See some of Chicago's most ruthless comedians roast your favorite Amazonian superheroine, Wonder Woman. As part of the Character Assassination series at the Laugh Factory (3175 N. Broadway), this show features performances by Andy Fleming, Danny Maupin, and Tyler Jackson. 9 PM

Sun 6/4: New York artists Diet Cig bring their infectious pop-rock tunes to Subterranean (2011 W. North). They're joined by indie band Sports and Chicago-based musical renaissance man Nnamdi Ogbonnaya. 8 PM
