Four years after starring in Abbas Kiarostami's 10, Iranian painter Mania Akbari returns with her own project, a meandering video chronicle of her life and thoughts while undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Like Kiarostami's film, much of this consists of conversations with friends and family during car trips, and though the physical changes that accompany the chemo are jarring, Akbari has clearly retained an inner spark. The problem with adopting Kiarostami's style is that she lacks his facility for making the characters' exchanges or philosophical musings seem spontaneous; some sequences are transparently staged, which blunts their emotional impact.
