Ah, the sad wisdom of 28-year-olds. Jamie Linden, screenwriter of the youthful heart-tuggers Dear John (2010) and We Are Marshall (2006), makes his directing debut with this nice ensemble piece about a high school reunion in Orlando. Most of the intertwined story lines deal with old flames and crushes never consummated, but the sharpest one focuses on a back-slapping car dealer (Chris Pratt) whose campaign of apology toward the classmates he used to torment gradually devolves into a drunken reprise of the original bullying. "This is going to blow some minds," Linden remarks in the press notes, "but believe it or not the inspiration [for the movie] came from going to my own ten-year high school reunion." Consider my mind blown. With Channing Tatum, Rosario Dawson, Justin Long, Max Minghella, and Anthony Mackie (the only black character, whose sole story function is to bring weed).
