This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of composer Richard Rodgers, and some of the Chicago area's top cabaret singers and pianists join forces this Friday and Saturday to celebrate the show-tune king's centennial with two programs of his music. The performers are all members of Chicago Cabaret Professionals, an organization founded in 1998 to promote the art of cabaret and develop new performers and repertoire. CCP's 2002 summer gala, presented in conjunction with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, features two different lineups of local talent. Friday's program includes Tom Michael, Kat' Taylor, Daryl Nitz, John Eskola, Pat Rusk, and Bob Moreen, with George Howe as musical director. On Saturday the roster is Alexandra Billings, Spider Saloff, Stephen Rader, Kari Howard, Claudia Hommel, and Suzanne Petri under the musical direction of Andrew Blendermann. Tickets are $20 per show ($15 for seniors and students) or $30 for both nights. Proceeds benefit the AIDS support agency Season of Concern and CCP's advocacy efforts. Shows start at 7:30 August 16 and 17 at the Royal George Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted. For reservations, call 312-988-9000; tickets are also available through Ticketmaster.
