Raymond A. Thomas makes an impressive debut with this 2001 dramatic short about a prisoner scheduled for execution who asks to meet the 12-year-old son he's never known. Attempts to connect the plot with themes in black history are often ham-fisted—as the boy's mother and stepfather argue about the meeting, poster-art images of Muhammad Ali and Martin Luther King Jr. literally peer over their shoulders—but Eric Lane, Pam Mack, and Malik Middleton deliver strong performances. 30 min.
