13 Rue Madeleine

Henry Hathaway's documetary-style espionage thriller (1947), with James Cagney leading a group of OSS agents in occupied France. It was produced by Louis de Rochemont, one of a series of “realistic” thrillers that borrowed the style of his famous “March of Time” newsreels. Hathaway, for his part, again shows off his way of freshening—if not transcending—staple material (a talent that got out of hand with True Grit). But remember, you're cheering for the future CIA. 95 min.
