2012: The year after tomorrow Recommended Agenda

When: Sat., Dec. 31 2011

Still don't know what you're doing when the ball drops? Head to chicagoreader.com/nye for an up-to-the-minute list of dinners, shows, and parties. Here are a few that caught my eye. At Co-Prosperity Sphere (3219 S. Morgan), craft beer is the star with over half a dozen types of Dogfish Head on tap, along with Half Acre, Three Floyds, and Stone brews, plus a buffet and live music; to avoid the $40 cover, head to Maria's nearby (960 W. 31st) where there's a shorter but no less impressive beer list. The Rice Table, the Indonesian catering service run by Chris Reed and his mom, Jane, abandons the pop-up restaurant it ran in Bia for Mia (1147 W. Grand) for the new year, but not before offering a $25 with $20.12 wine pairing. Gather round a flaming sugar cone dripping high-proof rum into a bowl of spiced wine for the German tradition of Feuerzangenbowle at the DANK Haus (4740 N. Western) Silverball, where the cover is $10 and the beer is sold by the liter. For a rollicking, grungy New Year's, the Disappears headline a show at the Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western) at 10 PM, playing after DJ Sriracha and Jimmy Hollywood. Tickets aren't sold out, and if you aren't sold on it, read Bill Meyer's Soundboard write-up of the band. —Asher Klein
