44 Plays for 44 Presidents Recommended Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Saturdays. Continues through Nov. 17 2012

With its rapid-fire, low-fi vibe, this election-season offering from the Neo-Futurists (performed in various incarnations since 2002) might be mistaken for a star-spangled production of Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind. But it's got a tighter focus than the group's freewheeling flagship show, presenting sketches on each American president in chronological order. Five credited writers focus on creating emotive portraits of each leader, often succeeding best when obscurity offers them a blank canvas—in one of the show's funniest scenes, for instance, Millard Fillmore is played by a loaf of white bread. The Neo-Futurists tease out the surreal aspects of the country's highest office by supplying mundane, human details about the people who've held it. —Keith Griffith

Price: $20, $10 students/seniors, pay-what-you-can on Thursdays
