50 Aldermen/50 Artists screening: A look back at the Characters of the Chicago City Council

When: Thu., March 18, 1:15 p.m. 2010

As part of the "50 Alderman/50 Artists" project, the Media Burn Independent Video Archive (mediaburn.org) is presenting two screenings and discussions of rare archival videos. The exhibition features photographs, paintings and posters of all 50 current aldermen (with substitutes for the two vacant seats), paired with biographical information. "A look back at the Characters of the Chicago City Council" is a 16 minute screening of rare footage from 1971-1987 presenting a unique glimpse at three of the biggest 20th Century characters in the Chicago City Council: Leon Despres, William Singer, and Edward "Fast Eddie" Vrdolyak. Sara Chapman, Executive Director of the Media Burn Archive, will introduce the screening. Media Burn is a repository of 40 years of Chicago history as captured by videomakers working outside corporate contexts. Admission is free.
