I'm From Division Street

Author/Attorney/Boxer Kenneth N. Green was kicked out of Roosevelt High School 60 years ago. A half-year later, he was allowed to return and finally graduated after four and one half years. He made a comeback after graduating from Roosevelt. His book, I’m From Division Street, tells how he rebounded from poverty, academic problems, and facing anti-Semitism growing up in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood. He became s a Defense Attorney, Chief of Public Defenders in Los Angeles County where he supervised over 400 lawyers, a boxer inducted into the California Boxing Hall of Fame, adjunct professor, at UCLA Extension for over 30 years and is listed in Super Lawyers. He did all this as a single parent raising a son as a single parent. He also became a Reserve Police. Sergeant at the age of 68. His book also vividly describes the Humboldt Park neighborhood during the period when he grew up during the 1940’s and 1950’s and profiles famous and successful Jewish people who had their roots in that neighborhood. Green will speak about his book, I’m From Division Street, two Chicago area synagogues during February. On Friday, February 21, 2014, He will speak at Lincolnwood Jewish Congregation AG Beth Israel following the Shabbat dinner. The dinner will follow services, which begin at 5:10 p.m. The cost of the dinner is $18 for adults, $9 for children 12 and younger. Children 5 and under are free.
