A Difficult Life

Alberto Sordi as a former resistance fighter come on hard times in the crass consumer 60s. A departure from the farcicality and fluff that defined director Dino Risi's comedy style in the 50s (Love and Larceny); the emphasis is on satire with a more serious social edge, marking an odd gesture back toward the postwar neorealism that Risi's popular entertainments had originally helped to subvert (1961).
