A Fool There Was

67 minutes 1915

A young Chicago actress named Theodosia Goodman was catapulted to fame as "Theda Bara" (which, her publicists pointed out, was an anagram for "Arab death") by this 1915 film from director Frank Powell. The picture is tripe, but it's virtually all that survives from the career of this pioneer femme fatale.

Screens as part of the Silent Summer Film Festival, with live organ accompaniment by Jay Warren. Fri 8/25, 8 PM.
