The Amalfi coast during the 1930s provides a glittering backdrop for this 2004 update of Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan. A glamorous but impecunious adventuress (Helen Hunt) flees New York hoping to reverse her fortunes on the Italian Riviera, but scandal clings to her as tightly as her beaded evening gown. Her keen interest in a wealthy young American businessman (Mark Umbers) emboldens a conniving British playboy (Stephen Campbell Moore) to move in on the man's wife (Scarlett Johansson); meanwhile the Brit's decadent aristocratic circle fights boredom with bons mots. Director Mike Barker elicits a marvelously agile performance from Hunt, who's well matched by Tom Wilkinson as her new admirer. PG, 93 min.
