A Love Affair of Sorts

Rated NR 91 minutes 2011

Indie moviemaking reaches some kind of awful zenith of self-indulgence in this scriptless drama, entirely improvised and shot on cellphones, about "reflexive cinema" and a relationship conducted on camera. This digital brief encounter (though not brief enough) is engineered by pudgy, smirking producer-director-star David Guy Levy (as the fictional "David Guy"), who roams around shooting random stuff with his cellphone, catches a nervous Hungarian woman (actress Lili Bordan) shoplifting, and talks her into making a film with him. The setup seems opportunistic, the camerawork is understandably sloppy, and the improvised dialogue is pretty bad.
