A Lover for My Husband | Chicago Reader

A Lover for My Husband

Chicagoan Brandon Finney wrote and directed this low-budget romantic comedy about a young woman (Cassandra Finney) who convinces her loving husband (David Bjorlie) that they should swap mates with a couple they find through a personals ad. A clumsy framing device has the wife recounting the story to a potential new lover (director Finney) months after her marriage has fallen apart, though her character seems to have learned nothing from the experience. And the filmmaker unaccountably skips what should have been a key scene: a dinner date between the two couples prior to their experiment in swinging. Ms. Finney gives a sharp performance, as does Lorisa Harper as her wacky best friend, but whatever indie charm this musters is annulled by Luqman Ghazali's horrendous lite-FM score. 72 min.
