A Man Apart

Vin Diesel stars as a DEA agent trying to track down the drug lord who murdered his wife. The script for this action vehicle is like something you'd find under the cushions of Steven Seagal's couch, but Diesel, to his credit, digs into his role as if it were Hamlet. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger, he projects a funny macho charm, a quality that carries him through any number of hackneyed set pieces: confronting a crime kingpin in his prison cell, extracting a confession from a bad guy with a one-sided game of Russian roulette, etc. Larenz Tate is equally game playing Diesel's loyal partner; F. Gary Gray (The Negotiator) directed. 109 min.
