A Perfect Wedding Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through May 3 2009

There's more than a hint of Plato's Symposium in Charles Mee's two-act meditation on love, marriage, and death. Like Plato, Mee uses a social occasion--a drinking party for the ancient Greek, a wedding party for Mee--as a jumping-off point for a series of philosophical discussions. Some of these dialogues are fascinating, some run a little long, none of them are boring. Director Joanie Schultz enlivens this essentially plotless evening with a strong, energetic cast whose every member performs with verve and riveting urgency. When my focus flagged during those overlong bits--mainly in the first act--Jessica Kuehnau's playful costume design and Bob Knuth's gorgeous set provided a little eye candy. --Jack Helbig
