A Town Called Panic

75 minutes 2009

This crudely animated claymation novelty item is based on a popular Belgian TV series, episodes of which are just four minutes long. Maybe the self-consciously stoopid humor works better in microbursts, but at 75 minutes it's a total drag. Frenetic characters based on cheap, mold-injected plastic toys (a horse, a cowboy, an Indian, etc.) pursue non sequitur adventures comparable to the comedy stylings on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim but even less funny. The shrill shouting voices are an excellent migraine inducer. Gumby creator Art Clokey (RIP) picked a good moment to leave the planet. In French with subtitles.
