A Work of Art Recommended Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through July 19 2015

It's 1978, and Sabrina (Jennifer Coombs) is obsessed with the life and death of her brother, Kirk (Vic Kuligoski), who was killed in Vietnam ten years ago—though it might as well have been a day ago given the way time collapses for Sabrina. She exists in a fog of fantasy, telling herself the story of her lost love, her "pure love," as if by that she might bring him back to life. I love the big questions driving the work: What does it mean to move on, to love, to heal? How do historical and political forces play out in a single life? Some of playwright Elaine Romero’s additional complications and backstories seem ancillary to this complicated family drama. Still, I like the messy openness, and under the direction of Henry Godinez, A Work of Art is not just a play about one woman’s fractured life but about, well, everything. —Suzanne Scanlon

Price: $28-$33, $23-$28 students and seniors
