When: July 13-17 2011

Arthur Miller's 1964 drama is a flawed but powerfully personal work--a fragmented, three-hour journey through the memories of a guilt-ridden Jewish intellectual with leftist connections and a history of failed relationships. Though the hero, Quentin, is a lawyer, he's clearly Miller's onstage alter ego, and his suicidal spouse, a singer named Maggie, is just as clearly a surrogate for Miller's onetime wife Marilyn Monroe. Steve Scott's carefully crafted, finely acted staging for Eclipse Theatre features riveting performances by Nathaniel Swift and Nora Fiffer in the leads. Fiffer is especially compelling as the emotionally unstable Maggie. Evoking Monroe without actually imitiating her, she's charming, sexy, anguished, ferocious, cruel, yet always vulnerable. —Albert Williams
