When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through Sept. 15 2013

About ten minutes into this surreal adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic, performed in promenade along an easy stroll through Lincoln Park, the guy next to me broke into a Cheshire grin and joked, "Man, I probably should have eaten about half as many mushrooms." At least I think he was joking—it can be hard to tell what's real and what isn't in Michael Wise's adaptation for Nothing Without a Company. Will the man lounging under a tarp leap up and start singing? If he does, is it part of director Rose Freeman's plan, or a bizarre interruption? Hewing closely to the dark inanity of Carroll's book, this loopy show opens the gates to Wonderland, and to the everyday wonders of a world-class public park. —Keith Griffith
